The Benefits of Full Spectrum Lighting

Sunlight has full spectrum light, which means just that; it encompasses the full spectrum of the different waves of light - from infrared to ultraviolet. In the past it's been thought of in scientific and environmental terms in that these different types of waves of light are beneficial to plant and animal living. I say environmental terms in that it was mostly talked about in relation to the sun and outside environment related situations.

Now there are grow lights for greenhouses for instance, so plants can thrive year round. It is common knowledge that plants in the environment are beneficial to animal life and in fact, NASA has stated that indoor plants can help reduce environmental toxins in your home or office.

I got interested in this recently because a friend's shrink :-) got her what is called a 'happy light'. I laughed when she told me this but there really is such a thing and my friend swears by it. She has it at work with her and is convinced this has helped her depression, which is worse during the winter times when people in her area have cold winters and in turn do not get enough natural sun on them.

So this is why I started looking into this. It interests me in that it is a case of people trying to mimic nature for a change in developing products, not just using it and causing damage in the process.

There are a slew of lighting products coming out now related to natural or full spectrum light. So, I'm going to explore some of the benefits and uses here. One obvious one is in relation to mental health and in my friend's case depression - in particular SAD.
